Halfway BC

v CBC  2:30pm

Halfway & District BC President Hugh Gebbie and Cambuslang President Will McArthur with their rinks.

Delighted to say - another full house - 6 rinks.
This was our bi-annual visit to our near neighbours and good friends at Halfway & District bowling club.

President Hugh and I had a dress rehearsal last year as VP's as we both headed the match at Cambuslang. So we knew we were in for a good day..... and that's how it turned out!.
Excellent hospitality and a good days bowling.

The parish match between our two clubs is made a bit special as since 1977 the tournament has had a challenge cup - The McGinlay Trophy, donated by the then owner of the Sun Inn Mrs Maureen McGinlay.
The President of Cambuslang in 1977 was Jim Montgomery Sen and the Halfway BC President was Jackie Fergus. Both clubs have competed for the trophy ever since with the format of 2 pts a win.
Today we had six rinks competing and Halfway BC won the cup back from us - congratulations.
Its lovely how some things work out and today Past President's Jackie Fergus & Jim Montgomery Sen ended up playing against each other in rink 3, I took the opportunity of photographing them - both stalwarts in their own clubs.

Footnote ...........................................................
President Hugh Gebbie was a former
member of  Cambuslang BC and indeed he was club President in 1987 - I mentioned this in my speech and to  make the day a wee bit more special for him I  presented him with a framed photograph........

with

This was an absolutely fabulous night with superb entertainment provided by local band 'hair-o-the-dug'.
At the end of the first half Past President Harry Faulds MC for the evening, presented gifts to club stalwarts Liz, Nancy & Jeannette before handing over to President Will McArthur who gave a special presentation to Hon. President Jimmy Montgomery Senior for the excellent service he has given to Cambuslang BC for over thirty years - the President and his band then sang a special 'Glesga song' dedicated to Jimmy who hails from Bridgeton- there wasn't a dry eye in the house! Hair-o-the-dug carried on with the entertainment in the second half and the club was 'rocking' - superb party evening.
Special thanks to Eileen for traisping through the shops, looking for and choosing the gifts & flowers, Harry for his help and Terry for looking after the social side of the evening.... and special thanks to hair-o-the-dug!

 June 10th 2006 Invitation Triples - 10.00am
Sponsored by Hoad Bulk Services
Our Invitation Triples took place this year which was good news as previous years were cancelled due to lack of entries.
We were delighted to have sponsorship from Hoad Bulk Services and doubly delighted when owner Stewart Hoad came along to present the prize money.

A scorcher of a day added to the atmosphere created by the thirty-six players and their supporters.
After five games the two section winners and runners-up gave us semi-finals between Croftfoot BC v Troon Portland and Farme BC v Blantyre Miners BC.

The final between Croftfoot BC & Blantyre Miners BC. produced a cracker of a match, the score was 6 all going into the last end which Croftfoot BC skipped by Jim Booth won.  A fabulous day out.

 June 3rd 2006        CBC v Farme BC  2:00pm

Annual parish match with our near neighbours Farme BC took place today. President Eddie Dunn of Frame BC came along with a fine turnout of 5 rinks.
An evenly contested match finally ended with Cambuslang the winners. Old friendships were renewed and new friendships made in glorious sunshine and we were delighted to show hospitality to our bowling neighbours and we all look forward to next year.
