The
Championship final
played on rink one
was an enthralling
game with both
players playing
excellent bowls.
Brian took an early
lead but John fought
back and eventually
he took the lead.
The game went to
18-17 and finished
with Brian crowned
our new champion
with a 21-18
victory.

Mixed
Ryder Cup |
Cambuslang
Bowling Club
hosted our
annual
Mixed
President’s Ryder
Cup tournament
on Saturday 24th
September which was
run by Past President
Will McArthur. The
format of this
tournament is the
Gents President Alex
Helm’s mixed
team plays
against the Ladies
President Ann
Phillip’s mixed team
and everyone plays
singles, rinks,
triples and pairs. At
the end of the
tournament both teams
had 25 points each but
the Ladies President’s
team had the better
shots total and won on
the day! The
most valued player in
the tournament was
Eileen Aird and
incredibly the booby
prize went to the
winning captain, Lady
President Ann!
Both Presidents laid
on hospitality and
looked after everyone
admirably, Ann, as
usual
enthusiastically,
ensured everything was
perfect and all the
players were looked
after, to the
detriment of her own
bowls it seems!
It was taken in good
fun and the tournament
was a resounding
success. The raffle
money raised went
towards our club
refurbishment fund.

Walter
McNair |
|
It
is with deep sadness
we were informed today
that club member and
past Director,
Walter McNair
died this morning.
Walter was born
in Crail Street,
Parkhead on 22 July
1942 and attended
Riverside
Secondary
School. He worked at
the Hoover Factory in
Cambuslang where he
met
best friend and
good pal Past
President Alex
Latimer.
They were always in
each
others company
and were nicknamed
'semmit &
drawers'. Walter was
also a mason
and a member of
Lodge Buchanan 1499.
He was affectionately
known in bowling
circles as
'captain birds-eye' or
'kenny rodgers' for
obvious reasons!
Walter married the
love of his life,
Myra,
on
30 Sept 1966 and they
were blessed
with two sons Scott
and Stephen.
He was a big
gentleman and will
be sadly missed
by all at Cambuslang
B.C. Our thoughts
are with
his
wife Myra and the
family.
