June 16th, 2018, 10am  Gordon Dick Memorial Triples

Gordon Dick Memorial Triples

On Saturday 16th, we played a renewal of the Gordon Dick Memorial Triples, sponsored by Colin Johnston & Son, Plumbers and Heating Engineers.

A full field of 72 enjoyed an excellent day., despite some inclement weather around lunchtime.  Gordon was a very popular past president and three-time champion of the club
and it provided members and guests with  a wonderful moment when match secretary
Alan Johnston was able to announce the winners as Alex Hay, Joe Walker and Alan Dick - Gordon's son, who was able to collect his father's trophy from his mother Sylvia.

Back row - Gordon's daughter Lorraine and wife Sylvia
Front row - Alex Hay, Gordon's son Alan Dick and Joe Walker.

Runners-up in an thrilling final were the McGovern brothers from Strathclyde Park.

July 07th, 2018, 10am  RDBA JubileeTriples
We had a triples team playing today Saturday, 07th July, at Rutherglen BC in the RDBA Jubilee Triples competition.
Twelve member bowling clubs from the RDBA took part, thats is, Rutherglen, Kirkhill, Cambuslang, Overtoun Park, Templeton, Burnside, Croftfoot, Halfway, Whitefield, Kingswood, St.Leonards & Tollcross.
Two sections of six competed and both section winners:
Cambuslang BC (Will. McArthur, Jim Low. Jim. Kirk) and Rutherglen BC (Ron McDonald, Kenny Grummitt, Jackie Ferguson), made it to the final.
It was a very close well fought out final with Cambuslang winning by 1 shot  after five played ends.
The RDBA Jubilee Triples competition started in 1992 and this is the second time Cambuslang BC have won it. The  last time being in 2017. 😀  Our sincere thanks to Morris Smith RDBA Secretary for organising the tournament and to President Jackie Ferguson and his committee for their hospitality today.

July 07th, 2018, 2pm  Halfway BC v Cambuslang BC
We played our annual parish match away against our neighbours Halfway & District Bowling Club.
The parish match between our two clubs is  always a bit special as since 1977 the tournament has had a challenge cup - The McGinlay Trophy, donated by the then owner of the Sun Inn Mrs Maureen McGinlay. The President of Cambuslang in 1977 was Jim Montgomery Sen and the Halfway BC President was Jackie Fergus. Both clubs have competed for the trophy ever since with the format of 2 pts a win.  Halfway B.C held the trophy today by winning 6 points to our 4 points.
One consolation was our President Ian Skillen 's team won the sweep!
